“When I heard that it was actually Srila Prabhupada who had been chosen by Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu to spread the Hare Krishna-maha mantra around the world, I was not surprised. The Lord has utilized an empowered person to spread His mission.” –Sripada Hridayananda Babji Maharaja, in the book “A Friend to All” by Mula Prakrti Dasi.
Kartamasa is a well-liked teacher at the College, and he is assisted by Radha Kunda Dasi, his wife. They are enthusiastic second-generation devotees who guide students through a journey into ISKCON’s past, to enliven them and help them understand each period in its history.
I found their course enlivening, inspiring and nourishing for my faith in ISKCON as a religious organization. The course supplied useful historical information. We approached controversies and taboos and learned from the past.
Srila Prabhupada met many challenges to found ISKCON. He acted with expertise in adopting the philosophy according to time and circumstance, with clear vision and aims, and a strong desire to follow his spiritual master’s order. Moved by intense love and compassion, he gave us the most valuable gift of an amazing legacy of books. Because of his phenomenal efforts many temples and devotees are all over the world. He did something never done before: successfully transplanting Vaishnavism into the West.
The ISKCON History course provides a good understanding of ISKCON’s development and leads to understanding how things were and why they are like they are at the present time.
